Business Challenge

The U.S. Army faced a challenge because of numerous changes to their future projects dataset prior to construction. The dataset was difficult to keep updated, as projects would undergo many changes prior to construction. Many times, the GIS department would only receive updates after project completion; however, since the master plan was now available digitally, upcoming construction was something that planners needed to be available to see its impacts on the master plan.

Solution

POWTEC’s solution was to create a web application that master planners could use to easily submit updates to the GIS department for changes to upcoming projects.

Project Success

Planners were able to use the new site to keep the GIS department updated about future projects, allowing future project data to be overlaid with the master plan data. POWTEC developed an entire GIS dashboard, which not only alerts GIS staff of changes to future projects, but also allows staff to create tasks, search data, search database domains, and perform spatial searches for data.
